Description:
This 1987 Buick Grand National has been modified for drag racing use and is powered by a turbocharged 274 ci V6 that was built by RPE Performance Engines of Hartford, Connecticut, under previous ownership. The car is finished in black and additional equipment includes a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission with a Reid Racing case along with a Precision 88mm turbocharger, Carrillo pistons, Moser axles, a roll cage, aftermarket suspension components, 15″ Weld Racing wheels, Aerospace Components disc brakes, Corbeau racing seats, an Elite racing harness, a five-gallon fuel cell, a FAST XFI 2.0 ECU, and a parachute
Interior:
The cabin houses Corbeau racing seats and a two-tone factory rear bench and features metal door panel inserts as well as a full roll cage. The driver’s seat is fitted with an Elite five-point racing harness, and additional equipment includes an NLR AMS-1000 boost controller, an aftermarket shifter, a parachute release lever, a FAST XFI 2.0 ECU, and a Speedwire Systems overhead ignition switch panel relay controller mounted in the glove box. This is a Full Glass Car, with power windows. A five-gallon fuel cell, a fuel pump, and a 16-volt battery are fitted in the trunk. The three-spoke steering wheel features a transbrake button and fronts a digital instrument cluster and AutoMeter gauges for oil pressure, transmission temperature, and boost pressure. A Dedenbear RPM switch is mounted on the dashboard and set to shift at 6,800-rpm.
Exterior:
The car is finished in black and received a repaint under previous ownership. Exterior details include tinted headlight covers, hood pins, a chin spoiler, a front tow hook, sport mirrors, a decklid spoiler, a driver’s window net, an external kill switch, and a parachute. Weld Racing Prostar aluminum 15” wheels are mounted with 26×4.5″ Mickey Thompson ET Front and 275/60 ET Street rear drag tires. The car is equipped with AFCO Racing adjustable coilovers, QA1 performance shocks, and Aerospace Components four-wheel disc brakes with cross-drilled rotors and braided stainless-steel lines.
Drivetrain:
The replacement turbocharged Stage 2 All Alumunum 274ci V6 was built by RPE Performance Engines of Hartford, Connecticut, under previous ownership. Ran a 8.70 at 155mph at 18psi, and is currently tuned to 1200hp @28psi low boost. It is setup for the TSO class where normal boost is 50psi. and features the following components:
